As you exit the Bandaranaike International Airport, a Blue Lanka Representative will greet you and guide you towards a luxury chauffeur driven vehicle which will take you around the country. This representative will be your driver cum guide throughout the tour. To begin your Sri Lanka itinerary 7 days, you will be taken to the neighboring town of Negombo where you will check in to Negombo Hotel.
Early next morning, you will depart to Sigiriya. En-route, you will stop at the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage for some one-on-one interaction with the Elephants of Sri Lanka. In the afternoon, you will visit the ‘Lion’s Rock’ in Sigiriya – approximately 1200 steps to climb. This rock climbing activity is do-able and recommended for most tourists as you get to see some beautiful engraved frescoes of the ancient era and also the remnants of a fortress at the top of the rock, not forgetting the tremendous view from the summit. Check in to hotel in late evening
After breakfast the next morning, you will head towards Kandy after exploring the nearby Dambulla Cave Temple (300-400) steps to climb. Three and a half hours later, you will reach Kandy, after having visited the Ayurveda Herbal Gardens on the way. In Kandy, visit the Temple of the Tooth and then check in to Golden Crown Hotel on day 3 of your Sri Lanka itinerary one week.
Have an early breakfast on day 4 and then visit the Royal Botannical Gardens in Kandy to discover a wide range of fauna including some beautiful orchids. Next, prepare for a three hours drive to Nuwara Eliya. On the way, you will visit the gorgeous Ramboda waterfalls, a picturesque tea plantation and also a tour of a tea factory. By 9.30 am on day five of this Sri Lanka itinerary one week, you have to be at the Nanu Oya railway station for the most scenic train journey in Sri Lanka – from Nanu Oya to Ella. It is advisable to make your bookings early for this train ride in order to get seats on a good carriage. Your Blue Lanka chauffeur will pick you up with your bags at the Ella railway station and then drive you to Yala (two and a half hours). You have the remaining day to relax and indulge in the luxury surroundings of yala hotels.
Early the next morning, a jeep safari ride will await at your hotel to take you for a game drive at the Yala National Park. Mingle with the wildlife and try to spot the rare leopard if you are lucky! The game drive should be done by early morning (before the sun gets too hot) and you can have your breakfast then (or you could opt for a picnic pack before you leave for the safari). Next, check out from the hotel and depart to Galle – three and a half hours from Yala, located on the southern coast of Sri Lanka. En route, you will visit the Weligama fish market and when in Galle, take a tour of the Dutch Fort and its surroundings. A luxury ocean view room at galle fort awaits you in the evening
After breakfast on day 7, checkout and head towards the bustling city of Colombo (2 hours’ drive). In Colombo, you will be shown around the city and taken to visit the Gangarama Temple, Manning Market, Pettah and Fort area, Old Parliament Building, Galle Face Green, Independence Square, BMICH, Town hall and Lotus Pond area. This city tour will only be possible if your onward departure is towards the latter part of the day or better yet, towards the night. The airport is another hour’s drive from Colombo.
